What is an Essential Water?

December 3rd, 2011 by Karen No comments »

Steam is used in the distillation of an essential oil. In the process, condensing separates the oil and leaves water that is sometimes referred to as floral water, essential water, hydrolet or hydrosol.

Hydrosols have healing properties. They can be used in shampoos, bath water, skin creams, skin and facial sprays etc.

Hydrosols contain some essential oil, but only in very small amounts. they generally have a gentler, softer taste, and aroma.

Hydrosols are fun to experiment with, and relatively inexpensive. Fill a small spritzer bottle and take it with you wherever you. Experiment with Peppermint for weight loss, and use it cold from the fridge in hot weather to refresh and cool your body.

Clary Sage is great for women’s issues, and is gentle and soothing on the skin. Add a few drops of Lavender and a drop of Chamomile.

Happy spritzing!
